W.B. George McGirr 50 Years in Freemasonry

A Golden Jubilee Certificate and a fifty-year jewel was presented to W. Bro George McGirr in recognition of his long service as a member of our Masonic fraternity and in particular Oak Masonic Lodge 326, Ballinderry and also his mother lodge Connor 189 on the 2nd September 2019.

The immediate Past Provincial Grand Master John Dickson who is also a member of Oak 326 presented the jewel and gave a resume of  W Bro George McGirr’s Masonic career. The Provincial assistant Grand Master Designate Paul Harvey then presented the 50 year certificate.

First of all, W Bro George McGirr I wish to say how much I and the members of 326 appreciate your support of our Masonic Fraternity and in particular the Craft. Since affiliating to us back in May 1994 you have been a very keen member with an attendance record which would read as excellent. And I can say to you W Bro George we the senior members hold you in great respect, for we know you attended the lodge to take up your position in what ever office you held at the time, even though you were feeling sometimes very unwell. We also noted how supportive your wife Margaret has been to you over the years in getting you out to our hall and also supporting all of our fund-raising functions

W Bro George McGirr joined Connor M L No 189 and received his EA degree in September 1969 becoming a M M on 4th November 1969

When he moved to Lisburn just over twenty years ago he engaged the services of a Coal delivery service namely our Very Good Brother Bert Dickson who suggested you should affiliate to OAK M L 326

He duly affiliated on 2nd May 1994

W Bro George McGirr is the holder of the R U C Long service and General service medals.
