Brethren, many people, members, and non-members spend a lot of their time and energy trying to work out what Freemasonry is actually about. They fret over secret societies, world domination, mysterious symbols, and our relations with religion. And really, all they need do, and you, as well is to come along to a Masonic breakfast in Straid and join with all those present in the fellowship and friendship, which are the true secrets of Irish Freemasonry. Today we had just short of sixty present ranging from a three and a half year old visitor, just arrived from London to others in their late seventies, and what a relaxing entertaining and enjoyable day, we all had, as we celebrated the upcoming Christmas holiday.
Over the year, a small team of hard working Brethren including Tom Mahon, Paul Williamson, Leslie Weir, Ramesh Chada and Gary Bond, plan, prepare and organise a series of entertainments to keep us all on our toes as we enjoy the fortnightly festivities. Many and varied are the entertainments provided, which go down well with all in attendance. This year they raised funds to provide some 100 toys to the Mission Christmas Charity and a further 100 educational toys were provided to the Carrickfergus and Larne branches of Sure Start.
Amongst our visitors, we have one very attentive Provincial Grand Master of Antrim and Brethren from as far afield as Arthur Square, Crumlin Road, Whiteabbey, Carrickfergus, Ballycarry, Islandmagee, Larne, Cairncastle, Glenarm, Larne, Ballymena and from the wilds of Moyarget. So when you come to consider your New Year’s resolutions, you could do a lot worse than plan a visit to Straid, and once you get there and enjoy the craic, I have no doubts whatsoever that you will want to return.
And on that happy Note, on behalf of The Straid Breakfast Club, I have great pleasure in passing on their best wishes to you all for a Happy, Healthy Christmas and a Busy, & Enjoyable New Year in 2024.
