‘’Safer Together.’’ Safer Homes presentation to Cary and Dunluce Charity Committee

On 7th November Assistant Group Commander Alan Barr from Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service gave a Safer Homes presentation to Cary and Dunluce Charity Committee.  The presentation was aimed at Lodge Almoners and Stewards of Charities when visiting widows and elderly Brethren  to give them an awareness of fire hazards in the home and if necessary, how to signpost them to NIFRS.

Alan remarked that the theme of the recent Fire Safety Week was ‘’Safer Together.’’  This means working in partnership with other agencies to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the community.  However, the biggest partner of NIFRS is the community.  That means working closely with organisations such as the Masonic Order.  This is because such groups are in regular contact with people at risk and can signpost them to NIFRS for a free home fire safety check.  People at risk are those over 50, have an impaired mobility or have been referred to NIFRS by a partner agency.

It is intended that these presentations will be rolled out to the District Charity Committees within the Province of Antrim over the next few months.

Further contact details can be obtained by contacting the Provincial Grand Lodge Office.
