Brethren, Just a brief word of thanks to Wor Bro Jonathon McMillan for his kind invitation to attend the Closing Meeting of Maine Valley Masonic Lodge No 492, Cullybackey, that was held last night in the Cullybackey Masonic Hall. There was a good turnout of members present under their current Master Wor Bro Alan Millar, and I was particularly pleased to see Wor Bro Hugh Millar back in attendance after his recent illness.
It was a brief but lively meeting with plenty of discussion on the various matters raised. We then headed downstairs for a social hour and a ballot which raised some £ 400.00 for the local Cullybackey Community Association. We had a good selection of ballot prizes ranging from a raw turnip to a few bottles of spirits.
I had travelled over to Cullybackey last nigh to collect a copy of The Maine Valley No 492 Centenary History 1920 – 2020, researched, written, and published by Wor Bro Hugh Gordon, P.M., and current Secretary of 492 and a P.P.G.S. Having spent some time earlier going through this marvellous work, Hugh has clearly produced an excellent read, which tells the story of Maine Valley from its Constitution in 1920, right up to the present day. And I believe that his book, is excellent value at £ 10.00 sterling per copy. So if you need some bedtime reading, get in touch with Hugh and get yourself a copy, that will keep you entertained and educated in the weeks ahead.
In the photos you will see the original Warrant of Ancient Blue Lodge No 537 dating from 1776, and a few of the other artefacts preserved in the Hall. Again, if you ever get the opportunity to visit Cullybackey, then I would encourage you to do so.
